St. Augustine, located at 600 W. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo, is an ideal location for a preschool with its fully-licensed, welcoming classroom located within a nurturing, Catholic faith-based elementary school. St. Augustine Cathedral School has operated a Young Fives program for many years. St. Augustine principal Andra Zommers has extensive preschool experience having both taught and directed preschool programs for ten years prior to joining CSGK.
The preschool incorporates the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program as a central component of its curriculum. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a religious program that focuses on the faith development of each individual child and his/her relationship to Christ. It is a wonderful complement to the preschool curriculum that emphasizes the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of each student.
ABC Music and Me is a thematic approach to music and movement. The program incorporates literature, finger plays, rhythm and instruments in an organized classroom environment. The program strengthens cognitive connections, receptive and expressive language skills, and even social skills such as turn-taking and self-regulation. ABC Music & Me’s innovative approach offers benefits to all our preschool students.
Our Preschool Director is Elizabeth Wurtz. Liz is a certified teacher. Liz has completed Level I - Parts I and II ofthe Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training.
Schedule: Preschool 4 meets Monday/Wednesday/Friday. (4-year-olds may attend M-F.) Preschool 3 meets Tuesday/Thursday. Both programs offer half day or full day.
